Course Description

This course aims to develop the business knowledge and management skills, required to lead diverse groups; implement modern operational planning techniques; coach, develop and encourage staff; set and achieve performance targets; and engage in conflict resolution.


During the course, learners will undertake studies in the following four main categories:

·   Manage people and professional development

·   Meetings and conferences

·   Work Health and Safety and systems

·   Business processes and recruitment


This course is suited to those with little or no previous vocational experience, but who possess sound theoretical business skills and knowledge that they would like to develop in order to create further educational and employment opportunities. It is also designed for those with vocational experience in a range of work environments in senior support roles but without a qualification.


Through an interactive, industry relevant learning experience, using case studies, scenarios and simulated environments, students will develop the business knowledge and skill base which they can apply to a wide variety of contexts for supervisory and management level business positions.


Course Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will have developed the following:

  ·     knowledge of theories, concepts, and principles of a range of business-related fields and disciplines including accounting, management, marketing and sales, business law, and economics

  ·     knowledge and awareness of business practice, and industry standards and expectations


Graduates of the Diploma of Business will be able to continue to higher studies in business, or undertake the following roles:

   ·     Executive Officer

   ·     Program Consultant

   ·     Program Coordinator


Course Structure

This course consists of 8 units of competency; 8 elective units. Students are required to complete all of the following to achieve this qualification:



Pathways into the Qualification

This course is suitable for those who have completed BSB40215 Certificate IV in Business or relevant qualification/s with vocational experience in a range of environments in senior support roles but without a qualification.


Pathways from the Qualification

After achieving this qualification, students may choose to undertake:

·   BSB60215 Advanced Diploma of Business

 ·   a range of other Advanced Diploma qualifications such as BSB60915 Advanced Diploma of Management (Human Resources)
