Course Description

This course will provide learners with the necessary management skills, knowledge and training required to work as a HR professional within the human resources sector to ensure that human resources functions are effectively conducted in an organisation or business area.


During this course, the knowledge and skills learners will develop include the following:

·    build and manage a capable team

·    recruit the right people

·    support staff and develop their skills

·    manage people performance


It is suitable for those who have completed the Certificate IV in Human Resources, and/ or with vocational experience working in a variety of roles within the human resources sector, who have a sound theoretical knowledge base in human resources management and demonstrate a range of managerial skills. Typically, they would have responsibility for the work of other staff.


Through an interactive, industry relevant learning experience, using a range of learning activities, case studies, scenarios and simulated environments, students will develop the knowledge and skill base which they can apply to a variety of contexts for supervisory and management level positions.


Course Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will have developed the following:

    ·    knowledge of theories, concepts, and principles of a range of human resource-related fields and disciplines

    ·    knowledge and awareness of human resource practices, and industry standards and expectations


Graduates of the Diploma of Human Resources will be able to continue to higher studies in business, or undertake the following roles and duties:

·    Human Resources Manager: lead employee engagement initiatives and plan activities concerned with staff selection, training and development.

·    Human Resources Officer: provide administration services for the recruitment and employment of staff.

·    Change Manager: promote new business initiatives among employees to ensure they business can meet objectives.

·    Recruitment Consultant: attract candidates to an organisation and match them to the position that will best fit them and the business' needs.

  ·    Workplace Relations Officer: oversee the working environment and employee conditions of an organisation to maximise effective business practices.


Course Structure

This course consists of 9 units of competency, 6 core units and 3 electives. Students are required to complete all of the following units to achieve this qualification:


Pathways into the Qualification

This course is suitable for those who have completed BSB41015 Certificate IV in Human Resources or relevant qualification/s, or those with vocational experience in human resources management, but without formal qualifications.


Pathways from the Qualification

After achieving this qualification, students may choose to undertake:

·         BSB60915 Advanced Diploma of Management (Human Resources)

·         BSB60215 Advanced Diploma of Business

·         a range of other Advanced Diploma qualifications.
